Default Need help on my build - W/R (No not IWAY!)

~Edited (1.2.2006)

Warrior/Ranger

Strength - 9+1
Axe Mastery - 12+4
Tactics - 9+1
Wilderness Survival - 3

1. Eviscerate
2. Executioner's Strike
3. Axe Rake
4. Apply Poison
5. Frenzy
6. "Watch Yourself!"
7. Sprint
8. Ressurection Signet

I have a question. I have always wondered what exactly the difference is between the sword and the axe. I know both supposedly strike every 1.33 seconds and some have different damage types but what exactly seperates the two? Is it just personal preference? Could someone please clear this up for me?

Any comments or suggestions on the build?
They would be much appreciated.

The difference basically comes down to skills. Swords do slightly less damage per hit, but are more consistent. Axe's will have MUCH higher criticals. But what really seperates the two are the sword/axe skills. Axe has a very good spike combo of Eviscerate/Executioner's Strike. Sword only has final thrust and while it does good damage, you lose all adrenaline so no followup attacks can be used. Swords are also good for layering on a ton of conditions.

Both sword and axe have equal attack rated. Sword does 11-22 while axe does 6-28. This means criticals on axe really, really hurt. The rest is in the skills. Axe has easy application of deep wound (easily best condition in the game) while sword tends to be a bit more flexible.

Regarding your attack skills, ditch cleave and swap dismember for eviscerate. You can then put executioner's strike or penetrating blow in that slot. Eviscerate is too good of an axe elite to pass up. It will regularly deal 60+ damage in the hit and then the deep wound damage. Cleave simply cannot compare to it in the slightest. Additionally you want to run 16 in axe. 12/9/9 is the common split.

You might want to look at the elite 'Victory is Mine!' which is cappable at the Ice Flows (east exit in drokkies, warrior grawl).

Apply poison+cyclone axe+lots of enemies+ViM=LOTS of health and energy.

Thank you everyone for the help.

The build has been updated and I would still appreciate suggestions.

I will definetly look into that combo for PVE, but right now I am trying to focus on PVP.

Could someone help me come up with a good axe+shield combo to use? I have never used axe until now, and I was just going with chaos axe based on looks haha...

Axes are very interesting in that they can do peircing damage (Battlepicks) and slashing (everything else). You might want to consider getting one of both. I've got a battlepick and I've come to nickname it 'The Tin-opener'. Works a treat against armoured foes.

Of course, slashing is the way to go against spellcasters usually, as they will usually lack the armour.

The collector's shield hp+45, rec dmg -2 while stance or enchanted is the best. enchant rocks for farming, but i like stances better as i use them more. Or both would be good.look at guildwiki for collector's axes for the perfect damage mods(15>50, while enchanted etc.)

For PvP it looks to be a very solid build.

I would consider taking out Shields Up! for either Watch Yourself! which will help the whole team within range against any Elementalist AoE's or something like Bull's Strike or Protector's Strike for those who will be running from you.

Yeah I was a little concerned about the tactics.

Before I had "Shields Up!" and Shield Stance but I had to take one out for Frenzy so I figured I would keep the one that can be used more.

I am going to remove "SHields Up!" and replace it with "Watch Yourself!"

Ideally you should swap all points from tactics and put them into strength for the armor penetration. And if you are worried about the loss of armor you can take Endure Pain, for a quick boost of health till a monk can get to you, Dolyk Signet, which ups your armor by a very nice bit, or maybe I Will Survive! if you are seeing lots of conditions thrown at you.

Yeah I think you might be right, considering I'm only taking one tactic skills and strength has more than one use...

Second opinion?

I've used a similar build before, here are my recommendations. First, you can actually drop your wilderness survival to almost zero. Why? Because every time you attack, you reapply your poison anyway. It isn't efficient for you to target multiple foes to spread poison the way a ranger would, (particularly in PvP; in PvE cyclone will do that for farming), so don't bother trying to. Since every time you hit the target, they get poisoned anyway, you don't need to worry about your poison duration as much. Now, the only downside to this is that if you happen to get, for example, blinded, then the poison effect will wear off very quickly, and, I suppose, if your poison wears off, then they will unpoison before you reapply again. That's something you'll have to decide for yourself, but I think 9 points in WS is excessive. If you want to use that many, I would drop "Watch yourself" for Troll Urgent (since you'll get 8 or so pips of regen) and dump the extra points into strength.

Poison and sword works quite well, since you can get bleeding easily with swords, meaning that you can have a net 7 pips of degeneration on a target without too much difficulty.

On elite you may want to consider is Battle Rage. I've have alot of people sniffy at it, but you build up adrenaline VERY quickly with it (as you get 2 adren for each blow isntead of 1) AND you get +25% movement speed.
